The Kraton Yogyakarta Army

The Sultanate of Yogyakarta was founded from the disintegration of the Mataram Sultanate when two princes fought over the accommodation of the Dutch by the Sultanate of Mataram. One of the princes, who would became the first Sultan of Yogyakarta, created an army that exists until today despite being reduced by treaties.Each of these units listed below comes from a distinct geographical location surrounding the Kraton.

Technics Relief in Borobudur Temple

The rich giving charity to the poor If we look further, we can see that the reliefs found at the foot of the Borobudur Temple are related to the essence of Buddhism. The reliefs that decorate the foot of the temple describe teachings about the cause of human suffering and the result of human actions in the next life. By comparing the relief sculptures with Buddhist or Sutra scriptures, it can be seen that temple reliefs are connected to each other to tell a story that represents the Mahakarmavibhanga Sutra, or the law of suffering and the result from deeds.

The Stories of Sudhana

In a relief of Borobudur Temple, there is a story about a man named Sudhana who sat down beside a lotus pond. There, he found Manohara and her sisters were bathing. Previously, Sudhana has learned a spell from a wise man to cripple Manohara. The artist who made the relief has successfully shown Manohara’s inability to move by isolating in a plain background, while the fairies flew toward the sky and left. One of the fairies saw Manohara in surprise because she did not fly with them.
